Welcome to the Blog
Updated: Jul 8
My name is Nicole Bishop and I’m a tarot reader, henna designer, writer and mystical artist. I thought I would introduce myself and give you some background on who I am and how this website came to be.
Back in 2012, I found myself working at a job that didn’t fulfill my soul and as a creative outlet, I launched a blog called The Factory Culture where I interviewed artists and musicians that lived in my town, to prove that “culture lives everywhere,” and not just in large cities. This led me to organize events in Collingwood such as a concert featuring local buskers, a production of The Vagina Monologues and inspired me to volunteer at multiple local arts organizations in the hope of fulfilling my own artistic spirit while also creating a community and opportunities for other artists.
After switching careers, the blog was too hard to keep up with along with my volunteer work, and I found myself drowning in a corporate role, with long days, high demands, and zero personal rewards. As a way to save my sanity, and to try and find myself again, I turned to tarot reaching out to The Lioness Oracle Tarot creatrix, Alejandra Léon, doing private session over Skype learning about the cards, their messages, and in turn, learning about myself. At the same time I was learning the cards, and not just collecting them, I started practicing drawing and sketching with henna cones. These new art forms gave me an idea of the things I was missing and sparked me to pursue a different path. One where I could be myself, further my own personal and spiritual journeys while also building a community for others to connect and explore their own paths.
313 Spirit Shoppe
In May of 2018, I signed a lease for my own brick and mortar spiritual store and quit my job in August, leaping forward heart first into the unknown. When I finally opened the doors of 313 Spirit Shoppe in October, I had no idea what to expect or in some cases what I was doing. This was a whole new adventure full of unknowns, a Fool’s journey.
Come January, my mother and I started talking about merging our two shops together to offer more of a one-stop wellness shop and to also take the pressure off of us running two different spots, and by May 1st of 2019, I was fully moved over to Bishop Botanicals. A space offering spiritual retail, handmade natural products created in-store, facials, massages, yoga classes, meditations, tarot and psychic readings, and more. It’s a space filled with so much beautiful female energy, so many amazing practitioners who share space or visit, growing my spiritual community.
Feeling full of gratitude and inspiration, where I’ve come to in a way led me back to where I once was. Reminiscing about my journey and time writing articles for The Factory Culture, I decided to grow upon it’s format by celebrating both spiritual and creative realms - mystical arts and culture. Writing about creative and spiritual topics and touching on the idea (and my personal belief) that the creative is spiritual and spirituality is creative.
What to Expect
This blog will feature a lot of my own musings, opinion pieces, holistic and spiritual recipes for food and magicks, book reviews, topics of interest and commentary on current events, all within the realm of the mystical. It will also feature interviews with spiritual practitioners and wellness warriors talking about their beliefs, expertise, and their creative inspirations and outlets. I want this to be a digital safe space that inspires people to grow in their own creative and spiritual practices, learning about new things, learning from different people, and more.
I can’t wait to see where this ride will lead, and I hope you come along for the journey.
